Life is unpredictable, and risk is a moving target.

In January 2024, almost half (45%) of CEOs did not believe their business would be viable in a decade without ‘reinvention’ (PwC).

The same audience expected more pressure over the next three years than they experienced over the previous five from technology, climate, and several other megatrends.

Despite this, corporate boards and investment committees do not generally have dedicated political advice on hand.

I believe this default cannot last in an era of increasingly multipolar power, information asymmetry, climate transition, and technology-driven uncertainty.

My role throughout my career has been to help these business leaders, and the private equity investors who back them, think further ahead. Look before you leap.

About Tom

I’ve lived and/or worked in the UK, USA, Bosnia, and Brazil. I am half-Indian, but speak fluent Portuguese. I have a unique worldview: internationalist, compassionate, curious. In a phrase: Outside In.

My professional journey began in liberal politics, supporting MPs’ vital democratic work in the UK Parliament.

A lucky break at 25 meant I had to learn how private equity worked, and then how to add value to the deal-making process. That experience stood me in good stead as the industry grew in size and stature.

Through advising on hundreds of deals, and leading a team to the Private Equity Political Due Diligence award in 2022, I have an unrivalled understanding of how politics, business and investment interrelate.
